My week definitely got better last week! I really love playing in Owensboro. There's a great spirit of comradery between the musicians. And playing Brahms, Schumann and Ravel will lift my spirits anytime!
I'm much happier with the performance schedule that I picked this season. Last season, I picked Lexington MasterClassics over Owensboro just because Lexington is closer. But I always felt cheated! The programming in Owensboro is always better, and the level of respect (and competence) from the podium always makes such a huge difference. So I'm playing all of the Pops concerts in Lexington, and picking Owensboro when there is a conflict.
I picked up Ina May Gaskin's newest book on midwifery last weekend - Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. The first half of the book is devoted to birth stories from The Farm in Tennessee. All of the births are homebirths attended by midwives. Before I read this book, I knew that I wanted our next baby delivered by a midwife. But I thought that a hospital birth might still be OK. Now I'm not so sure. I'm not sure that a homebirth is for us either, but the birth center in Cincinnati sounds so appealing. But it is out of network for our insurance. We have some research ahead of us. With our last sorry insurance, we had to pay over $3000 out of pocket for Nathan's birth. If we're going to pay that kind of money, I want a say in how baby is born!
I'm off to read more Ina May.
